2016 was the 19th year of Chicago’s Hustle Up the Hancock. This year participation of elites was lower than usual, because many were attending the US championship at stratosphere – which was held on the same day.  Hustle Up The Hancock is one of the largest stair races in the world; 3087 climbers completed the full climb on race day, with about 400 more completing the half climb.

Hustle got off to a weird / early start this year.  In years past, the event has kicked off at 7:00A.M.; however, this year the elite climbers we sent into the stairwell at 6:45 A.M. This early start nearly caught a few of the elites out of line, as they were warming up, but thankfully everyone got in line just in the nick of time.

This year, Eric Leninger notched the overall win with a time of 9:57.  Local runner Kyle Larson came in second, with a time of 10:21.  Dan Walters came in 3rd with a time of 10:26.  Walters turned in a solid performance after focusing his efforts on running for a good portion of the year.

For the females, Liz Ruvalcaba earned her first victory at the Hancock with a time of 11:30 and came in 5th overall!  Longtime elite Cindy Harris came in 2nd with a 12:40, continuing to serve as a model of longevity in the sport. 49 year old Lisa Hoover from Danville, Indiana rounded-out the female podium with a smoking time of 12:44.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year’s Hustle Up The hancock!
